Letter: Family grateful for support for injured son

To the editor:

Through hardship we must look to find blessings and see the positives, and not dwell on the tragedy. Through the fire we had two years ago, we learned hard lessons about material things and that they can be gone in an instant. Through our current struggle, we quickly learned that our lives can be changed in an instant. Though no one needs reminding, such circumstances help us reflect on how life itself is truly a blessing.

Our son, Alexander, is home with us once again, following a motorcycle accident overseas. The anguish of having a family divided by oceans has been replaced with the joy of once again being together. Though he is recovering from his injuries and is talking much as his old self, he faces many challenges, including limited use of one arm and nerve and muscle damage in one leg. Difficult as this is to bear, we are thankful that he is alive and among us now.

Our extended family and our community have once again surrounded us with love and compassion, helping us to get through this together. Your support, friendship and the generous gifts through The Provident Bank's Fund for Alex McBrien have helped us deal with the most complicated and challenging time of our lives. The depth of that love and caring has moved our family deeply and is something for which we are tremendously grateful. We have far to go but know that we will not be going alone. Thank you and God bless.
