Enter a world of rollicking pirates, glittering mermaids, wacky witch doctors, dancing tiki birds and wise-cracking fish.

This is "Camp Pirate," an original, family-oriented musical comedy about a summer camp program run by real pirates, which is about to hit shore at the Firehouse Center for the Arts.

The family-oriented musical comedy created and directed by Newbury's Stacey Fix plays the next two weekends at the theater in Newburyport's Market Square.

The show first made its debut in 2006 at Newbury Elementary School. The Firehouse production features a cast of more than 40 students and adults, with the youngsters portraying campers and the adults taking on the roles of pirates.

When the campers arrive to find the captain is missing, they need to be trained for the adventure ahead - rescuing the ship's leader. The musical follows them on an action-packed romp aboard a fully equipped ship complete with mast and hammocks.

Fix has 10 years of experience directing theater in New York City and summer stock children's productions. As director and founder of Theater Workshop, she has written and presented shows at Newbury Elementary's after-school program for several years. She is also the director and founder of Workshop in the Woods at Camp Denison in Georgetown and was the curriculum writer and director of Letter Box Theater, a summer literacy and theater program at The Governor's Academy in Byfield from 2003 to 2004.

.Her past productions at the Firehouse include "Henry and Ramona" and "Good Fortune."
