AMESBURY - Facing two department head openings, Mayor Thatcher Kezer has hired a consultant to aid in his search for replacements, at a bill totaling $18,000.

Kezer hired the consulting firm Bennett Yarger Associates, based in Plymouth, in December. President Richard Kobayashi will remain working with the town until the positions are filled, Kezer said.

Fire Chief Bill Shute retired in October and Deputy Chief Jon Brickett has been serving as the acting fire chief. Public Works Director Brian Gilbert resigned in December in order to accept a position as the superintendent of Public Works in Tewksbury.

The consultant has conducted interviews and met with town staff as they compiled job descriptions and began advertising the positions, Kezer said.
