ROWLEY - On the heels of receiving a $1 million commitment from the Federal Emergency Management Administration to help rebuild three area bridges damaged in the Mother's Day storms of 2006, selectmen are seeking to line up additional funding that may be available from the state - 12.5 percent of the eventual replacement cost to be exact.

FEMA is offering 75 percent of the total cost - currently estimated at $1.4 million - and the Massachusetts Emergency Management Administration has committed to cover an additional 12.5 percent. The town would typically pay the remaining 12.5 percent, but legislation passed in the wake of the storm allows communities to seek that money from the state as well, if the funding is available.

"It's one thing to pass the legislation," selectmen Chairman Dave Petersen said. "But most of the time it's depending on funding. Our concern is, are they going to come through with the funding?"

State Sen. Bruce Tarr, who attended the selectmen's Monday night meeting, said the state had already approved a 12.5 percent - $11,000 - reimbursement of town costs associated with emergency vehicles and police details used during and after the storm.
