Selectmen question plan for teen center
By Robin ThomasCorrespondent
MERRIMAC - A father of two teenagers told selectmen this week that he wants to open a teen center at the Town Annex at 28 School St. Selectmen, however, had some concerns about the plan.
Roger Proulx said that he would begin by offering programs one afternoon per week, and then he would "let it grow on its own. As we get the groundwork, we start inviting more people. The vision is to start small and grow from there."
He is not sure yet how many teens would participate, but he expects to start with his two children and their friends (numbering between six and 15).
Proulx said his goal is to enlist support from "parents who care about kids." He said that he has spoken to some individuals who are very interested in getting involved. In an effort to get the community involved more with the youth, Proulx hopes to bring musicians to teach instruments, as well as include the youth in community service projects and take the teens on local trips.
