NEWBURY - It's only 270 bucks, but Alba Gouldthorpe couldn't be happier if she'd won the lottery.

A check that arrived at Town Hall last week was the cause of the Board of Health chairwoman's satisfaction. It was the town's first royalty check from the proceeds of the sale of recycled material collected at the Boston Road transfer station.

The check for $270 came from Integrated Paper Recyclers, a North Andover firm that subcontracts with the town's recycling contractor, G. Mello Disposal Corp. of Georgetown.

"It's the first time in the history of the Board of Health that we've gotten money (for recycling)," Gouldthorpe said.
